Top 5 Players of the 2011 World Series
By Zane Miller On Friday, October 28th, 2011, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Texas Rangers at Busch Stadium in St. Louis to win the 107th World Series four games to three. It was the 11th (and, as of this writing, most recent) World Series championship for the Cardinals franchise, as well as the 12th that was won in Missouri. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series. 5. #4 Yadier Molina (Cardinals)- C Molina was player of the game in game seven, driving in two RBIs with two hits and a walk, as the Cardinals took a 6-2 victory to claim the series championship. 4. #12 Lance Berkman (Cardinals)- RF Berkman earned player of the game honors in game six, hitting three RBIs with four runs, three hits and one walk as the Cardinals won it 10-9 in 11 innings. 3. #5 Albert Pujols (Cardinals)- 1B Pujols got player of the game honors in game three, as he got six RBIs on four runs and five hits as the Cardinals claimed the 16-7 victory. 2. #29 Chris Carpenter (Cardinals)- P Carpenter pitched his way to player of the game in game one, going six innings with two earned runs given up on five hits and one walk in the Cardinals’ 3-2 win. 1. #25 Mike Napoli (Rangers)- C Napoli earned player of the game honors in games four and five, taking three RBIs in game four with one run, one hit and two walks as the Rangers won 4-0, as game five saw him hit two RBIs with one hit in the Rangers’ 4-2 victory.
